ECG Operations Quality Manuals

The idea of establishing common quality standards for the whole industry was originally born from a commitment shared by the logistics service providers and the manufacturers to improve operational efficiencies by reducing duplication of activities due to the lack of harmonisation. It is foreseen that this manual will facilitate the standardisation of practices and consequently will lead to a reduction in damage and more efficient handling of the vehicles. These Operations Quality Manuals represent the first steps on the path towards a broader harmonisation in the sector. They have been developed under the auspices of the ECG Quality Working Group to provide the industry with guidelines to help achieve services of the highest quality throughout Europe through improved efficiency, the avoidance of damage and safer working practices.

The original Operations Quality Manual was first published in 2009 with the manuals specific to Commercial Vehicles and High & Heavy being added in January 2012.

These manuals are intended to be used as a management/supervisory guide when training staff on handling procedures. This should ensure a consistent approach. Of course, manufacturers retain the right to demand specific treatment for their vehicles. This is why the manuals often make reference to the manufacturer’s individual requirements. Such particular conditions have to be clearly defined, understood and adhered to by the contracting parties. Moreover, these guidelines are not intended in any way to supersede regulations stipulated by various authorities.

We expect these all to be 'living' documents and will review and update them regularly. As such we welcome any feedback from users that will help us to do this. If you have any comments or enquiries about any aspect of these manuals please contact the ECG Secretariat at info@ecgassociation.eu or by calling +32 2 706 82 80.
