News from ECG
ECG has been publishing diesel prices for the past 15 years. The time has come to update and improve this service by adding some additional data. Since February 2025, HVO100 prices have also been included in the file.
In 2023, the European Union adopted an amendment to the Renewable Energy Directive, known as “RED III.” The RED III target for transport was ambitiously increased: it now aims for at least a 29% share of renewable energy in the final consumption of all energy used in transport, or a minimum 14.5% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to what would have been generated by fossil fuel use.
One of the tools available to the transport sector to comply with this new legislative framework and achieve sustainability goals is the use of biofuels. According to the latest Eurostat data, the share of renewables in the transport sector has made significant progress over the past 20 years, increasing from 1.6% in 2004 to an average of 10.8% in 2023. In 2023, among EU Member States, the share of renewable energy in transport fuel consumption ranged from 33.6% in Sweden and 20.6% in Finland to less than 5% in Croatia (0.9%), Latvia (1.4%), and Greece (3.9%).
ECG is aware of its members' interest in using biofuels in their fleets to reduce GHG emissions. "This addition to the Diesel price file will provide ECG members with essential data to integrate biofuels into their operations and adapt to evolving industry standards," said Frank Schnelle, ECG Executive Director.
The HVO prices are now available for the following countries in the file (based on data obtained via IRU): Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, as well as Norway.
The ECG fuel price service is free for its members and available as a subscription for any other companies wishing to benefit from it. If you are interested in subscribing, please contact us at info@ecgassociation.eu
