The ECG’s Quality Working Group has developed a specialized manual to address the transport and handling of used vehicles, distinct from the existing ECG Operations Quality Manuals. A dedicated sub-group, composed of representatives from various transport modes, was formed to create this comprehensive guide.
This manual outlines the necessary procedures and best practices for handling and transporting a wide range of used vehicles. It refers to cars, vans, trucks (tractor units), trailers (non-self-propelled units), as well as High & Heavy equipment. With parts on general conditions of the used vehicles for transport, on vehicle inspection and separate parts on rail, road and maritime transports, the aim is to ensure that used vehicles are handled safely and efficiently across all transport modes, minimising the risk of damage and optimizing logistics processes.
Please note that the manual does not provide specific definitions of “used vehicles” as these may vary according to the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) or logistics operators. It is essential that these definitions are considered when applying the manual’s guidelines to specific situations.
Many thanks to those who were involved in the drafting of this manual.
