On 14 July, the European Commission adopted a package of proposals to make the EU’s climate, energy, land use, transport and taxation policies fit for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels.

The European Commission published the “CountEmissions EU” initiative on 19 November. This initiative is aimed at setting out a common framework to calculate and report transport-related greenhouse gas emissions which can be applied by both the passenger and freight sector. The initiative will allow service providers to monitor and reduce their emissions and improve the efficiency of their transport services, and will enable users to choose the most sustainable option.
The proposal will be published in June 2023.
