In the era of multimodality, the Revision of the Combined Transport Directive and the Road Vehicle Weights & Dimensions Directive are two sides of the same coin. In the current context of energy scarcity and climate change, a holistic system approach should be adopted for the revision of these two directives (traditionally considered as “road” legislation), as part of a multimodal exercise to optimise the whole transport system. A simultaneous and combined intelligent revision of the two directives is the only way to unleash the potential of multimodality as a means to reduce our dependency on imported energy sources.
CER proposes to apply 10 principles for the combined revision of both texts, which you can read in our position paper.
