News from ECG

On 26 March President Donald J Trump announced a 25% tariff to be applied on imported passenger vehicles sold in the United States of America. The tariff is imposed on 2 April  2025, making all passenger vehicles effectively tariffed from 3 April 2025.

The legislation released by the White House states that sedans, SUVs, crossovers as well as minivans and light trucks will all be affected by the new tariff.

ECG Business Intelligence has worked with data from ITC in Geneva and EU based Eurostat to bring you the latest details on the trade in passenger cars between the EU and USA, in value and volume. We have also worked to highlight the brands most affected going forward such that members can align their business strategies accordingly.

In 2024 the EU exported USD 45.79 billion worth of passenger cars (which include sedans, SUVs and crossovers) to the USA. In 2024 the EU imported USD 9.25 billion worth of passenger cars.
