The batteries offer a potential driving range of more than 1,000 kilometers (621 miles).

Chinese electric vehicle maker GAC Aion's Hyper brand said it has finished R&D on all-solid-state batteries that will be first used in Hyper cars in 2026.

The 400-watt hour per kilogram solid-state batteries promise more than 1,000 km (621 miles) of driving range.

Solid-state batteries enable improved safety, a longer lifespan and faster charging compared with conventional lithium ion batteries that use flammable liquid electrolytes, but constraints in raw material availability, intricate manufacturing processes and resultant high costs are mass adoption roadblocks.

GAC Aion was established in 2017 as a subsidiary of GAC Group to develop connected new energy vehicles.

GAC is the second-largest Chinese EV maker after BYD. It is also the second Chinese auto manufacturer to release a schedule to adopt solid-state batteries for EVs.

SAIC Motor has said it plans to mount solid-state batteries in its IM-badged premium smart EVs in 2024.
