The VDI Guideline 2700 on lashing on vehicle transporters came into force on 1 September 2024 and is immediately enforceable on German territory, when loading or unloading in Germany but also for transit through the country.
The new Guideline will come into force on 1 September 2024 and will be immediately enforceable on German territory, so not just when loading or unloading in Germany but also for transit through the country. The VDI Guideline 2700 is not law but a generally accepted 'rule of technology' within the meaning of §22 Paragraph 1, Sentence 2 of the German Straßenverkehrs-Ordnung (StVo, Road Traffic Act):
"The load, including load securing devices and loading equipment, must be stowed and secured in such a way that they cannot slip, fall over, roll back and forth, fall down or generate avoidable noise, even in the event of emergency braking or sudden evasive manoeuvres. The recognised rules of technology must be observed." Recognized rules of technology include EN norms, as well as the Guidelines of the Association of German Engineers (VDI), such as the VDI Guideline 2700.
The new VDI Guideline 2700 will mean changes to the current practices of road transporters. These include the following:
As ECG knows that members have many questions on the nature of the new rules and the certifications which will be needed, we decideed to invite the VDI and TÜV SÜD, which was part of the elaboration of the new Guideline, as well as all trailer manufacturers to a dedicated webinar. The goal is to discuss the current situation and derive possible actions from it while the attendees have the opportunity to raise questions.
We will hold the webinar on Tuesday 24 September, from 9h (CEST). Register now!
The webinar will be open for all ECG members, partners and OEMs alike - our purpose is to share knowledge and facilitate the adaptation to the new rules since VDI reject an introductory transition period for the Guideline.
You can read more about the new VDI Guideline 2700 and read informative materials from AML and TÜV SÜD on our website.
