On 17 September, the European Commission´s President Ursula von der Leyen revealed her new team shaping the future policies of the European Commission in the next 5 years. This was done after some last-minute changes, and Thierry Breton´s resignation formerly in charge of Internal Market and Services. 40% of the nominated commissioners are women.

Apostolos Tzizikostas, the proposed Commissioner from Greece, is delegated to lead the Sustainable Transport and Tourism portfolio.

ECG welcomes the newly nominated commissioners. We represent over 90% of the vehicle logistics sector in Europe and we are eager and ready to work with the newly nominated College on the most pressing issues for the automotive industry and our members”, says Frank Schnelle, Executive Director designate of ECG.

ECG has always had an excellent collaboration with the EU Commission. We fully support the objectives for the commissioner-designate in transport as outlined in the mission letter with regard to the electrification of road transport coupled with the deployment of appropriate charging infrastructure, the digitalisation of the sector and the newly proposed Sustainable Transport Investment Plan. We will do our part to ensure the commissioner is up to date with the current challenges in our sector and succeed in its mission”, noted Schnelle.

As a next step, the commissioners-designate will undergo a period of hearings at the European Parliament during October, after which, they will officially start their work.
