Successful Launch of the FVL Induction Course: A Milestone for the Industry

ECG — 2026-04-24

News from ECG

The association is pleased to reflect on the successful first delivery of the new FVL Induction Course. Designed for new entrants as well as professionals transitioning into the Finished Vehicle Logistics (FVL) sector, the programme provides a comprehensive, end to end understanding of how vehicles move from production to final delivery.

Over 3.5 days, participants gained valuable insights into all major transport modes including road, rail, ports, shipping, and inland waterways transport. The course combines expert led classroom sessions with live operational demonstrations, ensuring that theoretical knowledge is directly linked to real world practice. This balanced approach enables participants to develop a holistic understanding of the complex processes and key success factors driving efficiency, reliability, and cost effectiveness in vehicle logistics.

Interactive, Practical, and Expert Led

From the outset, the course demonstrated its strong practical focus. Participants were guided through interactive modules that introduced the fundamentals of FVL in a structured and engaging way.

A central element of the programme was the close collaboration with ICO (International Car Operators), which enabled exclusive access to operational environments and technical facilities. Sessions covered terminal operations, customs procedures, rail logistics, road transport, fleet management, inspection standards, and quality processes. Live demonstrations, including vehicle loading, inspection, and rail operations, ensured that participants could directly connect theory with practice. A vessel visit hosted by UECC added a valuable maritime perspective to the learning experience.

Further contributions highlighted current operational challenges such as driver shortages, long equipment lead times, and the need for consistent standards across the industry.

A Holistic Learning Approach

Structured into 12 modules, the FVL Induction Course guides participants step by step through the entire outbound vehicle logistics chain. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding the interaction between stakeholders, systems, and processes, forming a strong foundation for improving operational performance across the sector.

Next Opportunity: Bremerhaven, June 22 to 25

Following this successful premiere, the FVL Induction Course will be offered again in Bremerhaven from June 22 to 25. There are still a limited number of places available, and early registration is strongly encouraged. Further details and registration can be found online.

Experts and Speakers

The success of the course is built on the dedication and expertise of its speakers. Their strong engagement, openness, and willingness to share real world experience are what truly bring the programme to life and make it such a valuable learning experience.
