German registrations rose 5% in October as sales of battery-electric cars rebounded after slipping in September following the end of government incentives for business buyers.
New-car sales rose to 218,959 during the month, according to data from the KBA motor transport authority.
Sales of full-electric cars jumped 4.3% to 37,334.
EV incentives for business buyers ended on Aug. 3.
Winners and losers
Winners in October included Citroen, whose sales increased 74%; Jeep, up 53%; Dacia, up 41%; and Fiat, up 23%.
Among German brands, BMW and Audi both rose 20% and Mercedes-Benz was up by 3.8%. Opel sales rose 16%,
Market leader Volkswagen brand saw its sales fall by 15%.
Other brands that lost volume included Ford, down 26%; Renault, down 15%; Toyota, down 13%; and Tesla, down 5.4%.
Through October, German sales were up 14% to 2.36 m.
