Valenciaport has shown the logistics community its commitment to the railway, intermodality and environmental projects. Initiatives that will reinforce the positioning of the premises managed by the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) as an ally of the logistics industry. On 2023 May 16, the PAV’s assembly hall hosted the 2nd edition of ‘Logistics under Debate’, where a panel of experts discussed the present and future of this sector.

The round table on Intermodality, moderated by Juan Manuel Díez Orejas, head of Strategic Planning and Innovation of the APV, was attended by Vicente Palomo, head of the Technical Unit of the Mediterranean Corridor Office; Pedro Catalán, General Manager of CSP Logitren; and Bruno López, Regional Manager of MEDLOG. The speakers highlighted the strategic importance of intermodality in the logistics chain and explained the current and future infrastructures that are key to the sector.

During his speech, Juan Manuel Díez assessed the projects currently being developed by the APV to strengthen the internal and external railway network of the València and Sagunto enclosures. In the case of the Port of Valencia, he recalled the railway connection in the southern area with four tracks, the area adjacent to the APM terminal with two tracks as well as the one in the northern area in the East dock. In total, 8 tracks of 750 metres. Among the projects to be started up, he highlighted the improvement of the layout and new track beach at the Poniente/Costa quay, the doubling of the track at the Poniente/Levante quay, the train tracks of the northern extension and the Fuente de San Luis intermodal station. As for the Port of Sagunto, he pointed out the connection works with the Mediterranean Corridor and the future construction of track beaches in the Central and South docks.

The head of Strategic Planning and Innovation of the PAV also explained that “we are analysing new locations in our area of influence to develop intermodal areas in order to facilitate loading points and rail connections with import/export companies in the hinterland”.

The second of the working groups analysed the trend in the real estate market, which makes Valencia a highly attractive hub at European and international level for investors, operators and finalists. Participants in this round table included Javier Inchauspe, CEO of Scannell Properties; Roberto Arocas, Branch Manager of the Levante area of DACHSER; Sergio Acera, director of logistics at Power Electronics; and Jesús Fajardo, manager at Triangle Real Estate Managament.

The last round table dealt with infrastructure, technology and sustainability. It was attended by José Ortega, technical director of Scannell Properties; Santiago López, head of Environment at the APV; Javier Roncero, director of Sustainability Solutions at IBM; César González, director of Business Development at Reflex Logistics; José Luis Fernández, commercial director of System Logistics Spain; Víctor García-Vaquero, director of logistics at Noken Grupo Porcelanosa; and Aida Núñez, Project Manager at Aspor Engineering.

In this regard, Santiago López explained the projects being carried out by the PAV within the framework of its Valenciaport 2030, zero emissions objective. “We are a benchmark in innovation, digitalisation and sustainability, three fundamental aspects for the present and future of the logistics sector,” he said. During his speech, the head of Environment of the APV pointed out that Valenciaport is working on several projects in the fields of energy transition, renewable energies and decarbonisation in all the actors operating in the Port, such as land, sea and rail.
