At the ECG Conference in Copenhagen, 15–16 October, leadership advisor Lars Sudmann will deliver a keynote on leading people and organisations through transformation and uncertainty.
“No industry is immune to dramatic, fast-paced change. Leaders must be prepared.”
Sudmann is an experienced leadership advisor, lecturer at RWTH Aachen University, former executive at Procter & Gamble and has worked with teams from Mercedes, DHL, and Siemens.
The leader's paradox
His talk centres on a key tension: how do leaders commit to bold moves when the landscape keeps shifting?
"Leaders face a paradox: you must pursue major change, yet adapt constantly," says Sudmann.
Start the next curve in time
Sudmann uses the S-curve to explain the stakes: businesses grow, surge, and plateau. The challenge is to start the next curve before the current one peaks—knowing when to invest and accepting short-term dips for long-term growth. The jumps are also coming faster.
"These S-curve jumps come faster than ever—driven by software and global shifts. Change is rarely gradual now."
Experience alone isn't enough—a team can have decades of expertise yet still be caught off guard by sudden industry shifts.
"Openness to these jumps is essential for leaders navigating uncertainty."
History repeating itself
The tech sector shows how quickly companies can rise and fall. Sudmann notes that even today’s massive automotive transformation is nothing new.
"The automotive industry was born from rapid change—from horses to cars in just 15 years. Today, we’re seeing similar leaps with electric vehicles, AI-adoption and potentially humanoid robots in the future," he explains.
Five principles to take home
In Copenhagen, Sudmann will share five actionable principles for leaders to navigate uncertainty—tools you can put to work right away.
