News from Brussels
The European Secure Parking Organisation – ESPORG welcomes the important EU funding allocation to Safe and Secure Parking Projects.
The European Commission has unveiled the results of its 2025 Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Transport call, announcing nearly €2.8 billion in EU funding for 94 transport projects. These initiatives span the entire trans-European transport network (TEN-T) and are aimed at enhancing sustainability, safety, and cross-border connectivity in Europe’s transport systems.
A key highlight of this year’s selection is the significant investment in Safe and Secure Parking Areas (SSPAs) for road freight transport! The EU will invest over €91 Million Dedicated to Safe and Secure Parking Projects.
Indeed, in an effort to tackle the long-standing issues of driver wellbeing, cargo theft and crime, and traffic congestion, the EU will co-fund the construction and/or upgrade of safe and secure truck parking facilities across 10 Member States. These projects will deliver more than 3,400 safe and secure truck parking spaces, spanning various security certification levels (Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze) in line with EU standards
As The European Secure Parking Organisation - ESPORG we are proud to see nine winning SSPA projects being presented by our members, with ESPORG actively supporting them throughout the application phase. These nine projects represent a total budget of over €74,000,000.00, accounting for nearly 81% of the total funding allocated to SSPA initiatives under this CEF call — a strong testament to the effectiveness of our network and commitment to advancing safe and secure road transport infrastructure across Europe.
“This result confirms ESPORG’s leading role in the EU secure parking development” said Dirk Penasse, General Manager of ESPORG.
“The majority of the EU funding for safe parking is going to ESPORG members projects, as we have also seen in the previous CEF allocations. We’ve supported the most ambitious proposals and with these additional projects in the pipeline, ESPORG is clearly at the forefront of Europe’s investment in secure and connected truck parking.”
We also welcome the recognition of SSPAs as an essential part of a modern, sustainable, and resilient transport system. Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, hailed the initiative as a "cornerstone of the EU’s Green Deal and geopolitical resilience," highlighting its role in delivering a modern, efficient, and secure European transport network. The investment on the construction and upgrade of SSPAs represent a critical step forward in delivering the infrastructure needed to support the people who keep Europe's supply chains moving. These SSPAs will provide rest areas that comply with EU security and service standards, offering amenities such as surveillance systems, sanitary facilities, and digital reservation platforms. By strategically locating these areas along the TEN-T corridors, the projects aim to relieve pressure on informal and unsafe roadside parking, improving both road safety and transport efficiency.
As Europe accelerates its green and digital transition, the strategic investment in Safe and Secure Parking Areas underlines a critical commitment: improving not just the infrastructure of transport, but also the quality and experience behind it. By enabling safer working conditions for drivers and more reliable logistics for businesses, this initiative plays a vital role in the EU's vision of a connected, competitive, and climate-resilient Europe.
ESPORG congratulates all the SSPAs projects selected for this remarkable accomplishment! It is a significant milestone in the journey to strengthen the European transport network and ESPORG is ready to support all these new SSPA projects to make a successful contribution to the broader goal of secure and efficient transport in Europe!
