Finnlines recently announced the ‘dual enhancement’ of its Biscay Line, for the transport of rolling freight and regularly connecting Finland, Germany, Belgium and Spain. The two improvements are the introduction of the port of Vigo among those served by the line and the doubling of the service frequency between Spain and Belgium, now with two scheduled calls per week in the ports of Bilbao, Vigo and Zeebrugge.

This service upgrade will become effective starting from mid-January. This way, the Biscay Line – which will maintain its weekly frequency in the other Northern European ports – will bring the Atlantic coasts even closer to the countries bordering the Baltic and Northern Seas, making the interconnection between the various lines operated by Finnlines and the entire Grimaldi Group network even more effective. In fact, through transhipment in Zeebrugge, freight can continue onwards to Ireland, the United Kingdom, Norway and Sweden. Also, via Antwerp – the other Belgian port served by the Biscay Line – it is possible to access the vast network of connections operated by the various Grimaldi Group companies, in particular those offered with the Grimaldi Lines and ACL brands, with routes towards North & South America, West Africa and the Far East.

The line will continue to be serviced by the brand new Finneco I, Finneco II and Finneco III, which – like all the Grimaldi Group Eco-class ships – stand out on account of their high loading capacity and reduced environmental impact.

“Finnlines transports goods with a focus on sustainability and reliability, guaranteeing lower Carbon Dioxide emissions compared to road transport. The strengthening of the service between Bilbao, Vigo and Zeebrugge aims to offer a sustainable and reliable alternative to road transportation,” explained Finnlines’ Line Manager Blasco Majorana. “The development of the Motorways of the Sea has been at the very core of our Group activities for years and therefore we’re delighted at the trust placed in us by our stakeholders supporting our actions also in the Bay of Biscay.”
