The vehicle will bear the Iveco badge and is based on Hyundai’s Global eLCV platform. This strategic partnership, initiated in March 2022, expands beyond their previous work on hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles.
The collaboration between Hyundai and Iveco started with a joint project in hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, resulting in the development of the eDAILY FCEV and the introduction of the E-WAY FCEV city bus. The newly announced agreement signifies a broader extension of their partnership to encompass a diverse range of environmentally friendly vehicles, emphasising the shared commitment of both companies to expedite the transition towards carbon-neutral mobility and transport solutions.
The Iveco-badged vehicle, the first to utilise Hyundai’s eLCV platform for export, is designed for commercial vehicles in the 2.5 to 3.5-tonne weight range. This innovative platform incorporates Hyundai’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology, and features a low-floor design to optimise cargo loading and carrying capabilities. This design aligns with the evolving requirements of future electrified purpose built vehicles.
Within the partnership framework, Hyundai will manufacture and supply the Iveco-badged chassis cab exclusively for the European market. Iveco, on the other hand, will handle local customisation and distribution of the complete vehicles through its established sales channels. The new product is slated for launch at the IAA Transportation 2024 event scheduled for September 16–22, 2024, in Hannover, Germany.
