Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka has revealed plans to increase tolls on the country’s motorways by between 10 and 15% from March 2024.

The Czech Government had previously announced a 53% increase for 2024, which will see the price of the annual motorway vignette for passenger cars rise from the current CZK 1,500 (approx €62) to CZK 2,300 (€97) 2024.

In an interview with Czech Television on June 18, 2023, Minister Kupka said the latest increase was necessary to finance investment in the country’s transport infrastructure.

With more than 100 kilometres of motorways due to be opened in the Czech Republic in 2024, the toll increase is expected to generate an additional CZK 2bn for the state budget. Currently, the toll system contributes around CZK 14bn (approx €588m) to the state coffers.
