The joint meeting of the Quality and Maritime & Ports Working Group took place in Zeebrugge, Belgium on 21-22 January 2025.
21/01/2025 19:00 - 22/01/2025 15:00 CET Zeebrugge, Belgium
The ECG’s Quality and Maritime & Ports Working Groups held their first joint meeting on 21-22 January 2025 in Zeebrugge.
Key discussions included managing fires in automotive compounds and onboard ships, with lessons shared from a fire simulation exercise at the Port of Emden. Attendees emphasized the importance of collaborating with local fire brigades and developing best practices, with further information expected from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) later this year, while ECG will work on a more detailed guidleine for loading and unloading units on board vessels.
AI technology for digital vehicle inspections was also presented by Timo Pasila of C.A.R. Consulting, highlighting its progress yet acknowledging its current 75% confidence level, comparable to human inspection. The debate explored acceptable error rates for automation versus manual processes.
At a reception hosted by the Mayor of bruges and the Port Authority of Antwer-Bruges, ECG Executive Director Frank Schnelle underscored the critical role of political and business collaboration in achieving decarbonized transport. Investments in infrastructure will be key to transforming the automotive logistics industry and maintaining port competitiveness.
Presentations from the meeting are now available only for ECG members and partners.
