“European truck manufacturers are pushing ahead. They are leading the way in the transformation to carbon neutrality. The commitment to fossil-free freight transport by 2040 is a major ‘North Star’,” stated Sigrid de Vries.

To speed up the market uptake of zero-emission trucks and to ensure that transport operators embrace this shift we need to have regulations that work in the same direction. This includes alignment on CO2 targets, infrastructure, emission trading scheme, renewable energy and Euro 7 pollutant emissions.

“We have our ‘North Star’. Zero-emission vehicles will rapidly become the backbone of road transport, if conditions allow it. And banning internal combustion engines for trucks is nothing but a symbol; it will not accelerate the transition. By working together, we can make it happen,” Sigrid de Vries concluded.

Speakers at the event included Professor Johan Rockström (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research), Antonia Gawel (World Economic Forum), Martin Lundstedt (Volvo Group), Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans (European Commission), Ismail Ertug (European Parliament) and Andreas Maschner (Amazon).
