Record breaking attendance at the Eastern Europe Regional Meeting in Riga

On 14 September the ECG Eastern Europe Regional meeting took place in Riga. The meeting was kindly  hosted by Latvian ECG member Kurbads and ECG partner Kässbohrer. 70 ECG members and partners based in Central and Eastern Europe gathered for the second meeting of the year in this area of Europe.

Krzysztof Szeligowski, chair, opened the meeting and welcomed all attendees giving an update on the market situation in Eastern Europe. During the roundtable discussion, participants discussed the market situation in their respective countries and expectations for the coming months. Andreea Serbu, ECG Senior Manager External Affairs updated the attendees on the current legislative developments at EU level concerning the EU Greening Freight Package, specifically on the new regulation CountEmissions EU and the revision of the Weights and Dimensions directive. ECG was happy to inform that the European Commission proposes to harmonise loaded length of vehicle transporters to 20.75m at EU level in the Weights and Dimensions Directive. As negotiations on the file will continue between Parliament and Council, ECG will keep its members informed on developments.

Other updates concerned the newly proposed CO2 road tax in Germany (LKW-Maut, see briefing paper) and the upcoming challenges expected from the implementation of the legislation on smart tachographs 1 and 2. The meeting continued with an update on ECG’s recent activities and 2023 strategic objectives amongst which the Finished Vehicle Logistics (FVL) cost index. The upcoming update of the cost index for the first half of 2023 will be presented at a webinar hosted by ECG on 28 September 2023. Additionally, the project on emissions reporting standardisation is well under way and the methodology will be published in the coming weeks. Members were also informed of activities under the active ECG Working Groups (WGs), such as the Digitalization and Health & Safety WGs, and future ECG events including the annual ECG Conference taking place in Copenhagen on 12/13 October.

The meeting continued with the traditional social and networking programme which included this time a private tour in the Riga Motor Museum and a dinner in the city centre.
