The intensive course, organized by ECG, the Association of European Vehicle Logistics, took place in Brussels from November 19 to 20. Among others, two representatives from the finished vehicle logistics industry led the course: Daniel Gent from UECC and Tobias Carlén from AXESS Logistics.
One of the participants was Nils Riedl, Data Manager Sustainability at Mosolf Logistics & Services.
"The ECG Emissions Training provided a good overview of the logic of the emissions guideline. The practical examples on the second day in particular provided some valuable insights. Nevertheless, practical tests with company-specific data are needed to fully understand and implement the guideline, and unfortunately no training course can replace this.", says Nils Ridl.
The emissions guideline was published by ECG and VDA in December 2023.
"It is amazing how far we have come in supporting our members on their emissions calculation and reporting journeys. If you search online for emissions reporting, you’ll find a lot of information. However, our training is specifically tailored for vehicle logistics operators," she explained.
Andreea Maria Serbu highlighted several factors driving this interest:
"Ultimately, it’s about decarbonizing the supply chain, but there are also political objectives and an increasing recognition that understanding the carbon footprint is essential for companies. This is especially true given the reporting requirements at national or European levels, such as under the CSRD legislation."
Nils Riedl, what are your next plans regarding emission calculations, and will this course help you in that process?
"MOSOLF is currently working with an OEM on a pilot project for data exchange and emissions calculation in accordance with the ECG guideline. Meeting our partners from this project in person and being able to discuss impulses from the training live on site was very helpful!"
Do you need more education in this area?
"More assistance in improving data structures and systems would help to improve the overall quality of emissions calculations in the industry. However, best practices will certainly emerge here in the future, which will point the way to better and, above all, compliant calculations.", says Nils Riedl.
The training materials are available to all ECG Members on ECG’s website.
