Stellantis has begun reviewing its long-term strategic plan, new CEO Antonio Filosa told staff in his first public appearance since officially taking over as head of the world’s No. 4 automaker.
Future Product Pipeline
“We have already started looking at our long-term strategic plan, which we will share when we are ready,” Filosa said in a video call on June 25 from Turin in Italy that the company shared with reporters.
The current “Dare forward 2030” long-term plan, which was presented in March 2022 by former CEO Carlos Tavares, aimed to double net sales by the end of the decade and maintain double-digit operating margins.
However, Stellantis faced major commercial and operational difficulties in the U.S. and Europe last year, forcing it to abandon its annual targets, eventually leading to Tavares’ departure.
The current plan also aims for 100 percent of its sales in Europe and 50 percent in the U.S. to come from electric vehicles, with sales in new markets outside of those regions to increase to more than 25 percent of group sales.
But the company’s EV agenda has been altered in recent months with Chrysler and Alfa Romeo abandoning plans to go all-electric by the end of the decade. In addition, Stellantis has delayed the launch of the electric Ram 1500 until 2027 after initial plans to debut in 2024.
The future of the next-generation Jeep Compass also is uncertain after Stellantis halted activity at the Brampton Assembly Plant in February as it retooled for the new electric crossover.
Filosa has four priorities for Stellantis
Filosa laid out four business priorities during the session. The business plan review came under one of those pillars, which is to prepare for the future.
Another priority is to grow the business, Filosa said, “by launching the right products that the customers want and that represent the real DNA of our iconic brands.”
Going further, Filosa said the automaker must improve its industrial execution and declared “there is nothing wrong at Stellantis that cannot be fixed with what is right at Stellantis.”
Quality made the list as well, with Filosa saying, “we need to set for ourselves the highest ambition in quality, and the time is now.”
“And there is also another priority,” Filosa said, “doing all of that with intensity and joy!”
Filosa told employees he wants to do away anyone using “ex-FCA” and “ex-PSA” as a descriptor for themselves, saying “we are Stellantis.”
Stellantis was created in 2021 from the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group.
Filosa said he wants a company culture where people respect is the foundation and people can speak up and be heard.
“Our focus is clear: it is to make the right decisions, by putting our people first, putting our customer at the center of everything we do, and in doing that — creating value,” he said.
“Let’s create an environment where respect is the foundation of everything,” Filosa said. “One where people know they can speak up and be listened to. Once we have great people, as you are, with a clear set of goals, who work together with respect and mutual trust, all of this — coupled with our competitive mindset — will make us unstoppable.”
