Vehicle manufacturers will have to comply with more than 100 pieces of legislation covering safety, emissions, energy, materials, data, and security requirements for type approval and vehicle development.

Not all these acts create a coherent framework, and there are too many cases of excessive reporting and overlapping requirements, unrealistic implementation deadlines and inconsistencies with international rules. All this drives up the costs of doing business in the EU when the sector needs to manage a profound transformation towards zero-emission mobility,

This is why ACEA is putting forward it’s putting forward it’s proposal for a simplified regulatory framework for the European automotive industry

  1. Group all regulatory requirements affecting the automotive industry into batches
  2. Regulate the future, not the past, and;
  3. Create a one-stop shop/taskforce to conduct industry-specific impact assessments and consistency texts of new laws.
