Hauliers and HGV drivers are being warned to prepare for increased lorry checks on European roads next week, as part of a coordinated pan-European enforcement action by the European traffic police network ROADPOL.

The operation, known as ROADPOL Operation Truck & Bus, will take place from 2023 May 8th to 14th and will involve Traffic Police Officers from each ROADPOL member country.

In addition to the regular checks of technical condition, dimensions and weight of vehicles, and driver authorization and adherence to driving times, this year’s operation will feature an intensified focus on road safety, with a particular emphasis on heavy goods traffic.

German police to increase checks during all of 2023 May

The Bavarian police will also be conducting their own checks on trucks and buses throughout the month of 2023 May, as part of a broader effort to improve road safety.

Bavaria’s Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann, explained that the police will be using “state-of-the-art technology”, remote tachograph controls and mobile HGV scales, reports the local press.

The Bavarian police will be working closely with other control experts, including the Federal Office for Goods Transport, customs, and the responsible veterinary and trade inspection offices, “to ensure that all necessary checks are carried out”.
