Members Corner
ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has once again been recognised for its sustainability efforts in the EcoVadis sustainability rating, placing it in the top 5 % of all companies assessed. Europe's leading rail logistics company, RCG has been awarded EcoVadis Gold status for the fourth time in a row. Focusing on companies in the rail transport sector, RCG performs better than 99 % of all other companies. According to RCG CEO Clemens Först, the award is not only a confirmation of the company's past commitment, but also a motivation for the future: "The Rail Cargo Group is the sustainable logistical backbone of the European economy. That is why we are investing in the future of rail freight. The goal is an innovative rail system that, in addition to greater efficiency and flexibility, above all simplifies access to the rail system."
Strong environmental and social results
RCG was particularly convincing in the areas of the environment as well as labour and human rights. The measures go far beyond the legal requirements. The use of reclaimed materials, the promotion of diversity, equality and inclusion - particularly through equal pay initiatives - and targeted actions to prevent discrimination during the recruitment process were emphasised.
Carbon scorecard as an additional assessment element
EcoVadis is an internationally recognised sustainability standard adopted by more than 130,000 companies worldwide. The categories assessed are environment, labour and human rights and sustainable procurement. A particular highlight this year is the Carbon Scorecard, which has been included in the assessment for the second time. This additional element evaluates the management of climate protection measures and strategies to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. RCG also achieved the second-highest "Advanced" rating here. Energy efficiency training for employees and the use of modern software solutions to optimise logistics processes underline RCG's commitment in this area.
